Dell Repairs at Both Melbourne Locations

Landmark Computers has been repairing Dell laptops and desktops since 1994. Bring your machine to our Melbourne CBD store on Queen Street or our Mitcham workshop, and a qualified technician will diagnose it free of charge and quote you before any work begins.

Two Melbourne Workshops

CBD and Mitcham

Everyday Dell repairs are handled at both stores. Board level and advanced component work is carried out at our Mitcham workshop, where the microscopes and rework equipment live.

Walk ins are welcome at either location, and we also offer on site and mobile service for business customers.

Any Dell, Any Age

Including models Dell no longer supports

We can repair any Dell of any age, including machines that have passed the end of their supported life, and we are not tied to a single parts channel.

If your Dell is still inside its manufacturer warranty, we will tell you, because going through Dell may cost you nothing.

Free Diagnosis First

How a Dell repair starts

Plenty of Dell faults present the same way. A machine that will not power on could be a failed adapter, a charging circuit fault, or a board level problem, and those are three very different repairs.

Our diagnosis is free, so you are deciding on a real figure rather than an estimate that moves later. There is no charge for finding out what is wrong.

Common Dell Faults We Repair

From the routine to the genuinely awkward. If it is a Dell and it is broken, it is worth a phone call before you write it off.

Screen Replacement

Cracked, flickering and black screens

Cracked panels, flickering displays, dead backlights and touch screen faults across Latitude, Inspiron, XPS and Dell Pro models.

See our dedicated laptop screen replacement page for pricing and turnaround.

Battery Replacement

Swelling, short runtime, no charge

A swollen Dell battery is worth acting on quickly, because it can push the trackpad up and warp the chassis. If your laptop has started rocking on a flat desk, have it looked at.

We also see batteries that report as failing in Dell diagnostics while still holding some charge, which is usually a genuine cell fault rather than a software reading.

Charging Port & DC Jack

Intermittent charging and loose sockets

Charging that only works when the cable is held at an angle usually means a worn barrel jack or a USB C port coming away from the board.

On models where the port is soldered directly to the mainboard, this becomes board level work rather than a simple part swap, which we handle at Mitcham.

Keyboard & Trackpad

Dead keys and unresponsive input

Individual dead keys, repeating characters, backlight failures and trackpads that have stopped clicking.

On many Dell models the keyboard is integrated into the palmrest assembly, so we will tell you at quote stage whether it is a keyboard or a full top case job.

Hinge Repairs

Stiff, cracked and separating lids

Failing hinges are one of the most common faults on older Latitude and Inspiron machines, and they rarely stay a hinge problem for long.

A stiff hinge pulls on the lid plastics and eventually the display cable, so getting it fixed early is usually the difference between a hinge repair and a hinge plus screen repair.

Fan & Cooling

Overheating, noise and throttling

Loud fans, shutdowns under load, and machines that feel fast for ten minutes then slow to a crawl. Usually dust, dried thermal paste, or a failing fan bearing.

We clean the cooling assembly, replace thermal compound and test under sustained load rather than just confirming it boots.

No Power Faults

Dead machines and boot failures

Laptops that show no lights at all, power on then immediately shut down, or reach the Dell logo and stop.

These need proper diagnosis rather than guesswork, since the cause ranges from a failed adapter through to a power circuit fault on the mainboard.

Liquid Damage

Spills and corrosion

Time matters more than anything else with a spill. We strip the machine down, clean corrosion from the board under magnification and assess what has actually been damaged.

Sugary drinks are worse than water, because the residue keeps corroding long after the laptop has dried out.

SSD & RAM Upgrades

Making an older Dell usable again

An older Latitude or OptiPlex still running a mechanical hard drive is often transformed by an SSD, at a fraction of the cost of replacing it.

We clone your existing installation across where possible, so you keep your files and applications exactly as they are.

Dell Desktops, All in Ones and Servers

This page leans towards laptops because that is what most people search for, but we service Dell desktops too, including OptiPlex, Dell Pro desktops and all in one machines. Power supply failures, storage upgrades, no display faults and general servicing are all covered. See our computer repairs page, or just call us.

Not Sure Which Dell You Have?

You do not need to know. Every Dell carries a seven character serial number, which Dell calls a service tag, and that tells us the exact machine and configuration. Read it out over the phone and we can check parts availability before you travel.

You will find it on a label underneath a laptop, on the back or side panel of a desktop, in the BIOS setup screen, or in Dell SupportAssist if it is installed. If you cannot find it, bring the machine in and we will identify it for you.

Alienware & Dell Gaming Laptop Repairs

Alienware machines run hot, work hard and are built tightly, which makes them a different repair proposition to a business laptop. We are comfortable with them, and with Dell G Series gaming laptops.

Thermal & Cooling Work

The most common Alienware job

Frame rates that collapse after twenty minutes, fans at full noise, or a chassis too hot to rest your hands on. Almost always dust in the fins, degraded thermal paste, or a fan that has lost its bearing.

We clean the full cooling assembly, repaste the CPU and GPU, and test under sustained gaming load to confirm temperatures have actually come down.

GPU Faults

Artefacts, crashes and no display

Graphical artefacts, driver crashes under load, black screens with the machine still running, or a laptop that only displays through an external monitor.

We diagnose whether the fault is the graphics chip, the display path or something recoverable, and tell you honestly when a board is not economically repairable.

Screens, Keyboards & Spills

High refresh panels and RGB keyboards

High refresh gaming panels need matching on refresh rate as well as resolution, and we specify like for like rather than dropping you back to a slower screen.

Per key RGB keyboards, liquid damage and worn charging ports are all regular Alienware jobs.

Dell Business Fleet Servicing

Dell Pro and Precision machines make up a large share of the fleets we look after across Melbourne. If you are running Dell hardware across a team, we can work to your schedule rather than one machine at a time.

Multi Unit Servicing

Fleets, rollouts and refreshes

  • Batch quoting across multiple machines
  • Staggered turnaround so your team keeps working
  • Preventative servicing and cooling maintenance
  • SSD and memory upgrades across a fleet
  • Data migration when machines are replaced

Built Around Downtime

Because a dead laptop is a stopped employee

We prioritise business repairs and will tell you upfront which machines can be turned around same day and which are waiting on parts, so you can plan around it.

On site and mobile service is available where it makes more sense for us to come to you than for your staff to come to us.

Repair or Replace

Straight advice, either way

Sometimes the sensible answer is a repair, and sometimes a machine has reached the point where the money belongs in a replacement. We will give you our honest read rather than defaulting to whichever suits us.

If replacement is the answer, we also supply business laptops, including current Dell ranges.

Board Level Dell Repairs at Our Mitcham Workshop

Most repairers replace the whole mainboard, which on a Dell workstation can cost more than the machine is worth. We repair boards at component level at Mitcham, under magnification.

What We Repair on the Board

Component level work

  • Power and charging circuit faults
  • Soldered USB C and DC jack replacement
  • Corrosion cleaning after liquid damage
  • Failed capacitors, MOSFETs and controllers
  • Display and backlight circuit repairs

Why It Is Worth Asking

Board repair against board replacement

A component level repair is frequently a fraction of the cost of a replacement mainboard, and on older Dell models a new board may not be available at all.

It is also the difference between a repairable machine and a written off one, particularly on Precision and Alienware hardware where boards are expensive.

More detail on our motherboard repairs page.

When We Say No

Honest limits

Not every board is repairable. Severe liquid damage across multiple circuits, or a failed graphics chip on a machine already near the end of its life, sometimes is not worth the labour.

We will tell you that at diagnosis rather than after spending your money finding out.

Dell Repair Cost & Turnaround

Standard repairs start from $59, and screen replacements from $90. Beyond that the figure depends on your model and the fault, which is why every job gets a free diagnosis and a firm quote before any work starts.

What affects your Dell repair price Why it matters
The part itself A battery and a workstation mainboard sit at opposite ends of the scale. Parts are usually the largest share of a repair.
Model age and availability Common Latitude and Inspiron parts are widely stocked. Discontinued and workstation parts cost more and take longer to source.
How far in the part sits A battery might be minutes. A fan or a charging port behind the mainboard means a full strip down, so the labour differs even when the part is cheap.
Board level or part swap Component level work at Mitcham takes bench time and magnification, but usually costs far less than replacing a whole board.
Screen specification Touch panels, high refresh gaming screens and high resolution displays all cost more than a standard Full HD panel.
Number of machines Business fleets sent in together are quoted as a batch rather than individually.

Same Day

Where the part is in stock

Common repairs on common Dell models. Call ahead with your serial number and we can check stock before you make the trip.

1 to 3 Business Days

Part ordered in

This covers most repairs. We order as soon as you approve the quote and book the fitting in as soon as the part lands.

Board Level Work

Mitcham workshop

Component level repairs take longer than a part swap, and liquid damage longer again. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote rather than an optimistic one.

Genuine or Compatible Dell Parts

Business customers ask this often, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a vague one.

Genuine Dell Parts

Our default where available

Where a genuine Dell part is available at a sensible price, that is what we fit. On current business machines this is usually straightforward.

Quality Compatible Parts

When genuine is not an option

Older Dell models eventually run out of genuine stock, and some genuine parts are priced beyond what the repair is worth. In those cases we fit tested compatible parts that meet the original specification.

You Are Told Which

Before the work, not after

Your quote states whether the part is genuine or compatible, so there are no surprises. If genuine matters to you for warranty or procurement reasons, tell us and we will quote it that way.

Parts and workmanship are covered by warranty either way. Ask us for the specific terms with your quote.

What Happens to Your Data

Most Dell repairs are hardware jobs that never touch your storage drive. Where a repair does involve your data, we tell you before we start.

Hardware Repairs

Screens, batteries, hinges, fans, ports

Your drive stays in the machine. Files, applications and settings are exactly as you left them, with no reinstall and no factory reset.

We may ask you to unlock the laptop so we can test properly. You are welcome to be present, or to log in for us at drop off.

Upgrades & Migrations

SSD swaps and replacement machines

When we fit a new drive we clone your existing installation across wherever possible, so you keep your setup rather than starting again.

If cloning is not viable, we discuss it with you first and agree what gets transferred.

Encrypted & Domain Machines

Common on Dell Pro and Latitude fleets

Business Dells frequently run BitLocker or are joined to a company domain. Let us know at drop off, and have your recovery key accessible, so testing does not stall.

Back up before any repair regardless. If your machine will not start, we can help recover your data first.

How to Get a Free Dell Repair Quote

Four steps, no cost, and no obligation to go ahead.

Find Your Serial Number

Seven characters, on a label under the laptop or on the back of a desktop. Dell calls it a service tag. It identifies your exact machine, though we can work without it.

Tell Us the Symptoms

What it does, what it used to do, and when it started. Anything unusual beforehand, such as a spill or a drop, is worth mentioning.

We Diagnose & Quote

Diagnosis is free. So is the quote, which covers parts, labour and a realistic turnaround for your model.

You Decide

No pressure either way, and nothing to pay if you choose not to proceed with the repair.

Dell Repair FAQs

How much do Dell repairs cost in Melbourne?

Standard repairs start from $59 and screen replacements from $90. The final figure depends on the part, your model and how much disassembly the job needs. Diagnosis is free, and so is the quote that follows it.

Are you a Dell authorised warranty repair centre?

No, we are not a Dell authorised warranty service centre. We repair Dell machines of any age, including models no longer supported through official channels. If your machine is still under Dell warranty we will point that out, since going through Dell may cost you nothing.

Do you repair Alienware laptops?

Yes. Thermal and cooling work, GPU faults, screens, keyboards and liquid damage are all regular Alienware jobs for us, along with Dell G Series gaming laptops.

I do not know what model my Dell is. Is that a problem?

Not at all. The serial number on the machine, which Dell calls the service tag, tells us everything we need. If you cannot find it we will identify the model when you bring it in. Dell has renamed its ranges more than once recently, so this comes up constantly.

Can you fix a Dell that will not turn on?

Usually. No power faults range from a failed adapter through to a power circuit fault on the mainboard, and the only way to know is proper diagnosis. Board level repairs are carried out at our Mitcham workshop.

Do you service Dell computers for businesses?

Yes, and Dell Pro, Latitude and Precision fleets are a large part of what we do. We quote multiple machines as a batch, stagger turnaround so your team keeps working, and offer on site service where that suits better.
